Abstract:
In professional language, but also in everyday communication, specific words and expressions are used that convey hidden messages, because they are used with meanings different from their traditional formulation. We define them as METAWORDS. They are used in art theories and in statements about art. The creative position of the French painter Paul Cézanne is essential to the history of modern painting. Its correct interpretation requires uncovering the encoded meaningful essence of the metawords used. This is achievable by differentiating their conventional meanings from the content derived from a thorough analysis of the artist’s creative method.
