The contribution maps the functional parameters of media production for children, revealing traditional electronic media as tools used for presenting the world. The communicative situation is delimited, on the one hand, by the media institution represented by the specific author; on the other hand, the child recipient is defined by age. Exponents of the selected genres operate within legislative guidelines and take into account the specifics of the target audience; these basic factors determine the nature of the material designed for the child recipient. Through analysis of selected children’s genres and considerations of what function media texts should fulfil, the paper points out the expressive means used which diversify the very concept of a “child recipient“.
