In the present text, we track down where Foucault in his reflections refers to the Renaissance novelist Fr. Rabelais. In the 1960s of 20th century at the latest, Foucault translated from English into French a paper by L. Spitzer, a great part of which was dedicated to Rabelais. In 1966 at a maximally significant conceptual place in “The Order of Things“, Foucault commented on an extensive quotation by Rabelais. In 1975 in an interview of his, he referred once again to the author of Gargantua in order to clarify the contemporary notions of “literature”.
