Development of Historical Geography and Cartography in Bulgaria during the Period 1944 – 1989

Abstract:

In the development of Historical Geography and Historical Car tography in Bulgaria after 1878, there are 3 periods, and the present article is dedicated to the second of them (1944 – 1989). During the considered period Historical Geography and Gartography developed mainly in the in stitutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). In this article, first, a general description of the period under consideration is made, and then the main achievements during it are listed in chronological order (scientific ar ticles and monographs, historical atlases, teaching aid cartographic tools and etc.), which are not few. A place is also dedicated to the more prominent personalities, who worked in this specific scientific field at that time. Finally, a summary is made with main conclusions about the overall development of Historical Geography and Historical Cartography in Bulgaria during the considered period.
