Abstract:

In the present publication, the achievements of the Bulgarian ar chives are presented with regard to meeting society’s needs for retrospec tive documentary information, and more specifically, those of the historical community. The issues related to the acquisition of archival materials (par ticularly copies of foreign written sources connected to Bulgarian history) are also examined in the context of the preparation of the multi-volume His tory of Bulgaria. Attention is paid to the existence and quality of the scien tific reference apparatus, which has a direct impact on access to archival documents, as well as to the publication and digitization of archival finding aids and documents that contribute to the expansion of access to materials within the National Archival Funds.
