Abstract:

The article shows the reasons why the St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo has educated a large part of the specialists working in the historical archives of the country. First, a historical archive was established in the city during the Ottoman Empire, and a special building was built for it (1870 – 1871. Then, the State Military Historical Archive is located in Veliko Tarnovo, besides the usual regional state archive. Today, they are an excellent base for the education of students and for historical research. Furthermore, the university maintains a rich library, and the university publishing house delivers own quality publications, which are used by other universities in Bulgaria and are also known to archivists from other countries.
