Abstract:

The study aims to present the importance of the church „St. Pa raskeva“, in the village of Vaglevtsi, erected in 1860, for the formation and preservation of local memory and identity. In the conditions of non-religious domination, the church, in addition to being a sacred object, becomes a kind of center around which all manifestations of social life in the settlement community are focused. Over the years, the tradition of combining the temple holiday with the general village gathering and community/ family meeting has been revived. In addition to the fact that the day is strictly fixed in time, the main function of holding the mentioned collective holidays is the local memory, the self-awareness that people belong to a community based on their attachment to the settlement from which the clan originates.
