Abstract:

The article examines the Liberation according to the scientific understanding of it as long-term efforts of the Bulgarians, mainly in the 19th century, to create a new Bulgarian state, which were partially real ized in 1879 with the establishment of the Principality of Bulgaria and the autonomous province of Eastern Rumelia. But since the national ideal of complete Liberation, i.e. for building a modern, nationally united, unitary and independent Bulgarian state in 1879 was not achieved, two achieve ments of the following decades are presented, which brought the Bulgarians closer to their ideal - the announcement and recognition of the Union with Eastern Rumelia and independence from the Ottoman Empire. Attached is a list of commemorative dates related to and symbolizing the achievement of Liberation, understood as the creation of a new Bulgarian state (minimum program) and as the construction of a nationally united and independent Bulgarian state.
