Резюме:
Africa is blessed with abundant mineral and human resources, yet, it is poor, impoverished and undeveloped as a result of leaders that are not educated nor well trained, ineffective, visionless, purposeless, and corrupt. It is far from gratifying to observe that most leaders who have emerged since Africa’s independence demonstrate poor leadership qualities, simply because most of them are not highly educated nor well trained for any leadership position. The problem of leadership is, therefore, largely responsible for the stunted growth and underdevelopment in Africa today. This paper argues that African leaders must be well educated and trained as Plato recommended in his political philosophy. Certain individuals referred to as leaders lack adequate training, which is in contrast to Plato’s political framework. Many leaders do not embody the ideals of physical and psychological excellence. The issue of private property acquisition also poses significant challenges in African politics. It is against this background, that the paper addresses a reconsideration and the relevance of Plato’s education, training and leadership in contemporary African polity. The paper concludes that Africa is in dire need of reconsidering Plato’s political blueprint in order to develop in future.
