Abstract:

The report presents the attitudes of two groups of Generation Z students regarding the spelling of some new words (part of the information and communication terminology) whose components, either one or two, are words from the English language. The words in question can be spelled in closed, hyphenated, or open form. The study aims to track both the basic knowledge of the respondents, who in recent years have been primarily educated in a digital environment, and to outline their preferences for the spelling of the analyzed lexical units. The level of familiarity with specific computer terminology differs between the two test groups which directly affects the choice of a particular spelling variant. The results of the conducted experiment show the hesitation of non-specialist students as compared to the decisiveness in the tendency for open forms of spelling by their colleagues who are specialists in this field.
