Abstract:
The present article contains an innovative comparative reading of Christian and Islamic hagiographic art, aiming to allow a deeper understanding of the respective cultural-religious models. The description of various art forms makes it possible to stress not just the distinctive aspects of both cultures but also the productive and valuable dialogue between both in the Middle Ages, particularly in the Balkans. New possible readings of the Christian hagiography are also highlighted, based on the idea of writing hagiographic texts as an all-encompassing spiritual experience and a form of adoration, which follows the model of Islamic Sufi texts.
