Abstract:
The main reason for the rise in the development of Burgas is considered to be the market trade, mainly of cereals, brought to the city by ox carts by the peasant producers. But when the villagers come to the market in Burgas, they are regularly subject to the speculative methods of local traders who cheat them about the weight of the purchased goods and pay them less money. Over the years, the town council has tried to protect vendors and townspeople from speculation and has passed special rules, including penalties, to protect villagers from the abuses of merchants. From the end of the 19th century, a 3-day annual fair began to be held in Burgas, which became an attractive event for many merchants from the city and its surroundings. The local government encouraged trade by announcing that no fees would be charged for trading posts and that only livestock sales would be paid.
