Abstract:
The stories included in the first volume of Ivan Stankov’s trilogy Memories of Water, are parables about life accompanied by music. The entire trilogy is actually a symphony; we must decode the initials in the titles of the three volumes – Memories of Water. Dm, Streets and Ships. Gm, Names under the Snow. A7 – D minor, G minor, or G major, all bearing a nostalgic coloratura. These ranges construct the emotional space of the narratives in an attempt to symbolize the narrative experiences. The author has the extraordinary ability to play with the register of the fantastic, alternating it with real space. The Danube River becomes the mother river, the river symbol of life, to which, directly or indirectly, all the inhabitants of these lands relate. Water becomes the background of all events and at the same time their determining factor.
