Abstract:
The “Ongal“ Association archive contains more than 2 TB of verbal, musical, and visual folklore, as well as archeographic and epigraphic materials collected over 35 years, all classified into 50 thematic sections. The folk songs recorded in the early years of the Association’s field research work are of particular interest, as their performers retain a vivid memory of traditional culture. The emphasis in the present text is on 77 unpublished heroic songs from the villages of Alino and Popovyane, documented in the period 1989–1993 in connection with the implementation of the special “Scientific-research program for the study of the heroic epic tradition in songs of the villages of Samokov ethnoregion.“
