Abstract:
Out of the historical aspect of mutual acquaintance, which is distinguished for different
points of view and interpretations, the Balkan peoples have quite a scanty knowledge of
their cultures and the most important marks of the other identity in the modern world. In this
paper the stand is taken that the educational systems of the Balkan states are indebted to the
mutual acquaintance in the context of the contemporary communications in a globalized
world that, in spite of the wiping out of different kinds of boundaries, has not turned its back
to the cultural and language differences as bearers of identity. Through the description of
topical practices in various Balkan countries and through linguistic and culturological criteria
applied in modern teaching of a foreign language and culture, thematic fields are suggested
which ought to be present in the syllabus, in cultural and educational media programmes and
the like.
